Information Technology Specialist

This Information Technology (IT) Specialist position is located in the Technology Solutions Division (TSD), Systems Management & Operations (SMO) Branch, Information Technology (IT), Transportation Security Administration (TSA), Department of Homeland Security (DHS). The major duties described below reflect the full performance level of this position. Typically, the lower pay band (I Band) performs the same duties but will receive more guidance and training; and/or projects/work assignments may be less complex. As an IT Specialist, SV-2210-J, your typical work assignments may include:
Serving as a technical advisor in planning and managing large-scale server deployment and implementation projects. Designing, developing and managing systems that enhance or optimize existing architecture, and meet current and future business requirements. Providing ongoing technical support services for mission critical application programs, including integration, IT Systems and infrastructure. Supporting operational testing; establishing test cases and operational test plans. Serving as a senior expert and consultant in the development of operational metrics, organizational performance requirements and operational processes to ensure the effectiveness of mission critical IT Systems and infrastructure. Providing advice and guidance in implementing IT security and cybersecurity policies and procedures in the development and operation of IT systems. Basic Requirements for IT positions:

In addition to the basic IT requirements, to qualify for the SV-I Pay Band (equivalent to GS-13), you must have one year of specialized experience at the SV-H Pay Band or GS-12 in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private sector. Specialized experience is defined as experience that has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. For this position, specialized experience is further defined as follows:
1.) applying knowledge of system administration experience with Red Hat and/or CentOS Linux (i.e., (system design, configuration, maintenance, upgrade and administration); AND 2.) developing and implementing IT security and cybersecurity approaches and procedures to mitigate risks; AND 3.) reviewing and interpreting LINUX system logs to tune and troubleshoot LINUX operating systems. In addition to the basic IT requirements, to qualify for the SV-J Pay Band (equivalent to GS-14), you must have one year of specialized experience at the SV-I Pay Band or GS-13 in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private sector. Specialized experience is defined as experience that has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. For this position, specialized experience is further defined as follows:
1.) applying knowledge of system administration experience with Red Hat and/or CentOS Linux (i.e., (system design, configuration, maintenance, upgrade and administration); AND 2.) developing and implementing IT security and cybersecurity approaches and procedures to mitigate risks; AND 3.) experience hardening Linux systems in accordance to Security Technical Implementation Guides (STIG) specifications. Note:
Credit for experience is given based on a 40-hour workweek. Part-time experience is credited on a part-time ratio, i.e., working 20 hours per week for two months equals one month of experience. No additional credit is given for overtime. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. National Service Experience (i.e., volunteer experience):
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. The Office of Personnel Management (OPM) must authorize employment offers made to current or former political appointees. If you are currently, or have been within the last 5 years, a political Schedule A, Schedule C, Non-career SES or Presidential Appointee employee in the Executive Branch, you must disclose this information to the Human Resources Office. You must meet the qualification requirements for this position no later than the closing date of the vacancy announcement.

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
